Grocery strike threat: Talks continue to try to avert walkout
Negotiations between Southern California grocery chains and workers continue, even after the union released a required 72-hour notice saying they were canceling the contract extension. With that notice, the union can strike once the 72 hours is up. The grocery chains said that they were hopeful of reaching a settlement, but that in the case of a strike they would shut down many of their stores. About 90% of union members rejected a contract offer last month. The contract expired in March, and negotiations have been ongoing.
