Grocery workers in California are voting to authorize a strike
Around 47,000 workers at hundreds of Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions grocery stores in southern and central California will vote on Monday to authorize a strike. The results are supposed to be released on March 27th. The United Food and Commercial Workers, who represent these workers, said that the grocers’ wage proposal was “shockingly low” at 60 cents, when the employees asked for a $5 an hour raise. The UFCW said in a statement, “Both companies have refused to agree to expand safety committees in the stores and have yet to negotiate meaningful health and welfare benefits.”
