Group Health drops workplace health coverage for select groups
Some health insurance providers, like Group Health in Washington State, are altering their plans to no longer include coverage for injuries on the job. The alterations only affect the small group and individual insurance plans. The move assumes that persons carrying those insurance plans also have access to Workers? Compensation, but for anyone self-employed, for instance small business owners or contractors working for small- or medium-sized firms, Workers? Compensation plans are optional. The changes may be an effort by health insurance providers to offset the cost of more expensive plan requirements under the Affordable Care Act. Both private insurers and the Obama Administration are urging individuals to review the fine print in their health insurance plans with a health insurance professional to reexamine whether the plan meets the individual?s needs.
