Group urges 29.6% hike in California workers' comp rates
The California Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau released recommendations on Wednesday advising that workers' compensation should rise 29.6%, shocking many. In 2004 the Governor signed an overhaul which brought down premiums more than 60%, but in the last few years that have begun to slowly rise. Most doubt that rate increases will be that large, but they do believe that they will increase. This is the second year that the Bureau has recommended an increase of above 20%, but the Insurance Commissioner has said that the rates should remain the same. Insurance companies have normally set a number somewhere in between.
