Harvard, janitors reach late-night deal and avoid strike
Harvard avoided what could have been another debilitating strike late last night when it came to a tentative agreement with 700 members of its janitorial staff. The maintenance workers will now earn an average of $24.67 an hour while also receiving premium-free health care. Last month, over 750 of Harvard's dinning hall workers went on strike and eventually won $35,000 salaries, but their concessions included higher health care costs. The janitors will vote on whether or not to ratify the contract this Thursday.
