Scott Oswald of The Employment Law Group PC., to maintain peace and respect in the workplace, employers should consider creating a written policy in regards to conversations pertaining to the election and politics, and employees should avoid talking about politics in a professional setting. Employers must carefully tread the line of discrimination against an employee's political affiliation, while also preventing and punishing inappropriate behavior. Additionally, Elliot Lasson, professor at UMBC at the Universities at Shady Grove, suggests having an action plan ready just in case political comments and conversations escalate.
