Health care workers rally for better benefits, wages
Supported by hundreds of area health-care employees, the Service Employees International Union held a rally Thursday to demand higher wages and better benefits from hospitals and nursing homes. Many workers in the state claim they cannot afford health care in the hospitals where they work, and stated employers need to do more to help employees earn a living wage. Meanwhile, officials from several Maryland hospitals countered that pay and benefits already represent their largest expenditures, and that such compensation workers was already sufficient.
