Heat-related stress hazardous for outdoor workers
In the U.S. more than 65,000 people visit the ER for heat-related stress a year according to the CDC and as a heat wave rips through the country, thousands of outdoors employees face the risks of heat stress. A huge population affected by the heat risks is agricultural workers who say a specific regulation on heat-related protection is long overdue. Lawmakers are considering a bill introduced in March that would “require OSHA to create an enforceable standard to protect workers from heat” while climate scientists and labor advocates are pressing states to enhance their outdoor worker protections.
