Here’s one way women should be more like men in the workplace
A new report by the Boston Consulting Group has found that men and women pursue workplace role models in different ways, and suggested that women might find more success at work if they change the way they try to find mentors. Mentorship was found to be much more important to women than men; women tended to look for role models who were highly similar to them, while men tended to look at ideal traits in individuals rather than look at just one person. This is largely due to a lack of women in senior management positions. It is harder on female employees to find other women to look up to, and creates pressure on the few women in top positions to take on more mentees than they may have time for. This issue could be mitigated by promoting more women to senior positions, or encouraging men to make themselves increasingly available as mentors to women as well.
