HGEA agrees to pay cut
The Hawaii Government Employees Association and the Governor have reached a two-year contract agreement. The contract includes a 5% pay cut for workers and splits health care costs between the state and workers. The agreement, unlike the current one, does not include furlough days. The agreement would save over $100 million over the next two years. The Governor is also negotiating with the Hawaii State Teachers Association and the United Public Workers. The Governor's goal was for $88 million in savings from public sector workers each year. The agreement has to be ratified by members of the HGEA.
