High cost of living in CA and insufficient salaries prompt academic employees at UC campuses to strike
Thousands of researchers and student employees are expected to go on strike today across ten different UC campuses to demand better salaries and work conditions. These employees have expressed spending more than half of their salaries on rent as the cost of living in the areas around the campuses is very high. Collective bargaining talks between UC officials and the union have been ongoing, however, no agreement has been made. As a result of the stagnating negotiations and alleged unfair labor practices, workers will strike today, leaving classrooms and research labs across the UC schools understaffed.
