High income workers' share of total wages grows
A new report from the Social Security Administration said that the overall trend in the country was for fewer jobs and lower pay. However, the report also showed that the number of people making more than $1 million rose by 18%, even though 50% of workers made less than $26,364 last year. The total number of employed fell to 150.4 million workers last year, 5.2 million jobs less than 2007. The average income was $39,959, and the median earnings were $26,364, which Social Security says reflect the disparity in distribution of workers.
