High-tech jobs that don?t require college degree
A new report by the Brookings Institution redefines STEM jobs- an acronym for fields in science, technology, engineering, and math- includes many jobs that require vocational training though not necessarily a bachelor?s degree. For example, registered nurses undergo rigorous study in anatomy, chemistry and microbiology. These sub-degree STEM jobs pay salaries of up to 10% higher on average than other jobs requiring similar levels of education. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that in the decade from 2010 to 2020, STEM jobs in the nursing and computer systems fields will rise by 22 to 26 percent.
