Swedish clothing retailer H&M is calling on Bangladesh to raise the minimum wage and review pay for garment workers every year. The company says that they want workers to be paid and treated fairly. H&M is the largest buyer of garments from Bangladesh, whose garment industry makes up most of the country's exports. While the company called on the government to raise workers' minimum wage, they did not say if they would ask factories supplying their clothes to raise wages independently. Workers make as little as $37 a month. Factories in the country have come under scrutiny recently for poor working conditions and labor violence.
