Hollywood focuses on fast end to long strike
The Writers Guild are putting the final touches on a deal with major studios which could bring a quick end to the writers' strike. The new three-year contract could be presented to union members for a vote Saturday, with the possibility of writers returning to work as early as Monday. While motion picture production schedules have been relatively unharmed by the strike, broadcast television has taken a huge hit, with most programs languishing in repeats or pulled from network and cable schedules. It remains to be seen how many shows can be revived in time to make a significant mark on the 2007-8 broadcast season.
