Hostess Twinkies return to stores, but unionized jobs disappear
Hostess Brand Twinkies returned to store shelves nationwide on Monday. After filing for bankruptcy last year, the company has since reopened under new management that promises to implement a skinnier business model; reopening just four of the 11 former factories, sub-contracting its distribution activities, and significantly trimming the size of its workforce. Additionally, none of the redesigned Hostess jobs will be unionized, whereas 79 percent of the former company?s employees were members of a union.
