Hotels union voting on strike
More than 4,000 San Francisco union hotel workers vote today whether to authorize a second strike within two years against 13 hotels. The strike authorization is almost a given. But no labor action is imminent, said Mike Casey, president of Local 2 of the hotel workers' union, Unite Here. Instead, the union wants to reach a contract agreement by Labor Day, Casey said Wednesday. The contract between Local 2 and the hotels, which are united in a bargaining organization called the San Francisco Multi-Employer Group, expired Aug. 14, 2004.
