House, Senate Dems urge action on international labor law violations
Top-ranking House and Senate Democrats spoke out against the Trump administration’s lax treatment of international labor law violations and called for immediate action to prevent these rights abuses and the myriad of negative consequences they hold for both international workers and American labor. These lawmakers specifically called for the government to stop imposing job cuts in labor and state departments and to stop diverting funds specifically set aside for labor law enforcement. In addition, the Dems called for a prioritization of discussion of labor law enforcement in upcoming talks with NAFTA trade partners in Ottawa this weekend. Finally, these officials called for the Trump administration to act on Donald Trump’s campaign promises as he pointed out how his administration will be tough on labor violations in order to prevent American wage deflation due to competition, yet no such intentions have been expressed since.
