Hundreds protest at Chrysler headquarters
450 members of UAW Locals 110 and 412 in St. Louis and Detroit gathered this morning at Chrysler headquarters to protest the closing of a St. Louis minivan factory. 412 president Joe Hagler cites the closing as part of a recurring problem, saying that Chrysler is sending too many jobs overseas. He believes the union must get through to the company, to ensure the security of future generations. A Chrysler spokeswoman sympathized with the laid-off workers, but said that given the current state of the market, it was a decision they had to make. She mentioned also that the company will try to make other job openings available to the former St. Louis employees.
