Hyundai Motor Group Unions Vow to Strike in August Over Wages
Unions at South Korea's largest automobile manufacturer are determined to strike in August if their demands for higher wages isn't met. The unions comprise workers at Hyundai and its various affiliates. At issue is the Korean Supreme Court's rulling last year that employee bonuses must be included in workers' pay. Hyundai is reluctant to increase labor costs at a time when the Korean won has appreciated, making it more difficult for the company to remain competitive against foreign competitors.
