Hyundai Motor union launches strikes in South Korea over wages, working hours
South Korea’s largest auto workers’ union has launched partial strikes this week, demanding higher wages, shorter working hours, and an increase in the retirement age. About 40,000 Hyundai Motor employees are walking out for a few hours at plants in Ulsan, Jeonju, and Asan. The union is pushing for a 30% bonus from last year’s record profits, along with a 4.5-day work week and retirement at 64 instead of 60. This is the first wage-related strike in seven years for the powerful Hyundai union, signaling growing pressure on management.
