IBM Labs located in China to lay off hundreds of workers
IBM has announced layoffs that will affect over a thousand workers in China. IBM employees in three major Chinese cities (Beijing, Shanghai, and Dalian) will be affected. The United States has grown more cautious regarding national security concerns with China as AI and other new technologies continue to develop and grow. In addition, revenue in the Chinese technology industry has been falling in recent years and decreased by over nineteen percent last year. Workers in the China Development Lab and the China Systems Lab will be laid off, and the company has not announced whether positions in all IBM Labs in China will be cut. IBM states that operations in China will not be affected by the changes, and it is expected that lab work will be transferred to the other labs in Asia. Various IBM labs in India will likely take on the work that was done at the China Development Lab and China Systems Lab.
