If cultures subdue, work can liberate
A growing number of advocacy groups are working with companies around the world to deal with women's issues in the workplace. Issues such as discrimination, harassment and hazards to reproductive health are being assessed. The private sector is being encouraged to work with the public sector to overcome cultural traditions that often justify women's subordination. Though the U.S. has come a long way on the gender equity front, more work can be done in areas including the hiring of women to top positions, and sexist images in ads.
