IKEA gives its US employees a raise
IKEA announced this morning that it would follow suite with the GAP and several other major US retailers and ensure that its employees are paid a ?living wage?. Unlike the GAP which set a company-wide minimum wage, IKEA will utilize the MIT Living Wage Calculator to determine a living wage in each county in each state. The average minimum hourly wage across all stores will be $10.59, approximately a 17% increase from the average now, but some employees pay will increase by as much as 50%. IKEA?s CFO told MSNBC that the move directly reflects the company?s vision of making ?a better everyday life for the many people.?
