I'll lay off 1,000 to balance New York State budget, Gov. Paterson warns
In a radio address on Thursday, New York Governor David Paterson said that he will lay off 1,000 workers in an effort to balance the state's budget. The Governor blamed the public employee unions for failing to negotiate with him, and said that he had to move forward. A spokesman for the Civil Service Employees Union said that they believe that Paterson has to obligate a no layoffs until January 1st pledge he made. The administration previously released figures of 10,000 as the number of workers they would layoff.
