In Historic Move At Labor-Skeptic 'Chicago Tribune,' Newsroom Pushes To Form Union
Journalists from the Chicago Tribune informed management on Wednesday that they have collected signatures from dozens of colleagues and are preparing to organize. This is a dramatic deviance from the paper’s historic staunch opposition to unions. Pro-union journalists for the Tribune say that a union will help them secure better pay and support their ability to fulfill the paper’s mission. Many are concerned about journalistic independence, lack of adequate resources, and executives’ generous compensation.
