In South Korea, plan to increase the work week to 69 hours is prevented by opposition from younger generations of workers and labor unions
Recently, the South Korean government was pushing for a plan to increase the maximum work week from 53 hours to 69 hours. This was because businesses had been claiming they were unable to meet deadlines due to the limit of the maximum working hours. However, Korean workers work more per week than the global average, and there is even a particular word in Korean, "gwarosa," to describe death by overwork because there is such a lack of work-life boundaries. The government is now rethinking this labor policy after it was met with backlash and opposition from unions and younger generations of workers.
