In Washington State, Home of Highest Minimum Wage, a City Aims Higher
Residents in SeaTac, Washington will soon vote on a referendum that would increase the city's minimum wage to $15 an hour, more than double the federal minimum. The measure, known as Proposition 1, is being pushed vigorously by various unions in an effort to present a model for increasing wages and empowering workers across the country. Proposition 1 faces equally hot opposition, however, from business leaders who claim the increase in wages could stunt economic growth in the city and dissuade new business from opening in SeaTac.
