International Paper Co. announces permanent closure and mass layoffs to North Carolina facility
International Paper Co., a manufacturer of packaging materials, will permanently cease operations at a North Carolina production facility and will lay off dozens of workers due to the closure. The company filed a WARN notice, which is required under federal law if a company is closing a facility and conducting mass layoffs. The company will continue producing various packaging until December 16th. Workers will be provided the opportunity to apply to open positions at other International Paper Co. facilities, and an offsite warehouse located in the same city will continue operations and will not affected by the plant closure. The company will also be closing facilities and manufacturing sites in Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, and Texas and will also cut hundreds of corporate employees. International Paper Co. stated that the changes will better position the company for future financial success.
