Italy union says it may step up job reform strikes
Italy?s largest union, which represents 6 million workers, said that it plans to increase protests against plans to open up the job market. The changes, which would make it easier for firms to fire and hire workers, are part of governmental plans to increase the economy and the number of jobs. The union says that the policy change will not help. Opposition to the changes caused the government to stop efforts to pass the changes by decree and will instead bring them through parliament, a longer process. The union says that it has protests and strikes planned, including a one-day work stoppage.
