Japan Court Rules on Job Promotion Case
Japan's top court overturned a ruling that said it was unconstitutional for the government to block foreigners from being promoted in public service jobs. The suit was brought by a South Korean citizen employed as a nurse by the Tokyo city government after she was blocked from taking an exam for a promotion because she was a foreigner. Koreans living in Japan have long had to struggle with discrimination in jobs and employment.
