Japan Requires Companies to Set Goals in Hiring Female Execs
Today, Japan's House of Councillors passed a law that will require large companies to publicize hiring targets and promotions for female managers. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has spoken publicly about his goal to increase the number of women in leadership positions to 30%. The law, which will be in affect for the next 10 years, will apply to any company with more than 300 employees. Although companies must set targets, there is no language in the law that says these targets must be reached.
