Jimmy Hoffa of Argentina sidelined as Fernandez Courts Middle-Class Voters
As President Cristina Fernandez of Argentina hopes to reach out to greater popular support for the coming elections, her moves to sever ties with the largely tarnished image of teamsters? union leader Hugo Moyano may prove to be antagonistic towards his supporters. These efforts follow the general public?s frustration with Argentina?s high-rising inflation mostly attributable to Moyano?s hardball negotiations tactics. Moyano, who had previously helped gain popular vote for Fernandez?s deceased husband, leads the largest represented Peronist Party, and also is in charge of mobilizing nearly 5.5 million union workers as head of the General Workers Confederation. However, recent threats to call for a national strike in response to Swiss investigations of his possible fraudulent financial transactions have led to the largely negative portrayal of the organized leader.
