Jobless Claims in U.S. Decreased 2,000 Last Week to 312,000
Initial unemployment insurance claims dropped during the week of June 21 by 2,000 to 312,000. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted about 310,000 initial claims. New dismissals remained about the same as the week before, at around pre-recession levels. The four-week moving average rose 2,000 from 312,250 to 314,250. The number of people claiming unemployment benefits beyond the first week rose by 12,000 to 2.57 million.
