Jobs warning at Jaguar Land Rover
A little more than a year after Indian firm, Tata Motors, purchased the Jaguar franchise, the company recorded its first annual net loss in 8 years. Sales of Jaguar automobiles fell 32%, by 280 million euros, in the 10 months following March 2008. Consequently, Tata has warned that further job cuts are likely coming to five Jaguar Land Rover locations, including Coventry and Halewood, in the UK, following some 450 redundancy cuts already made this year. Around 14,500 people currently work for Jaguar Land Rover - the extent of the new round of layoffs has not been specified. Talks have opened up between the UK government and Jaguar Land Rover concerning financial assistance, and the government has seemed open to the idea from the outset.
