Joined at the Claw
Despite the locals' romanticizing, the Maryland crabbing industry is being forced to turn more and more to immigrants to find workers willing to spend the long, grueling, and often dangerous days necessary to pick crabs at the meager wages most firms can afford to pay. As lawmakers debate the latest immigration bills to reach Congress, these employers and employees wait with their futures hanging in the balance.
