Journalists at National World newspapers in Northern Ireland are on strike
Staff at National World, who operate over one hundred newspapers in the United Kingdom, are taking strike action in Northern Irelands. National World journalists are represented by the National Union of Journalists, and journalists are striking to demand greater pay and increased employee benefits. The union states that various National World journalists do not have enough income to support themselves and utilize additional jobs or food banks to make ends meet. This is the first time in National World’s history that workers have gone on strike, and this can be attributed to stagnant wages while the cost of living has significantly increased in the past few years. The union also claims that over the years National World has made numerous cuts to employee salaries, and this has resulted in workers leaving and the remaining journalists being pushed to take on increased workloads.
