Judge Fines Union1 Million Per Day for Strike
Following the Transport Workers Union strike in NYC, which stranded an estimated 7 million commuters, State Supreme Court Justice Theodore Jones imposed a $1 million-a-day fine on the striking union. Attorneys for the city and state had asked for a large fine, hoping the it would force the union back to work. The union vowed to immediately appeal, calling it an excessive. The strike violates the New York State's Taylor Law, and strikers are liable for two days' pay for ever day they strike, plus possible contempt charges or possible jail time
