Judge throws out United's new deal with pilots
A federal bankruptcy judge rejected a new deal between United Airlines and its pilots. The pilots' proposed contract would have cut pay by 15% and eliminated traditional pension plans. However the union would have been allowed to terminate the deal if United allowed any other employee group to keep its pension program. The judge was particularly opposed to tying the elimination of other unions' pensions to the agreement.
