Kaiser Permanente employees working in mental health services take strike action
Employees in Kaiser Permanente’s mental health division began strike action earlier this week after contract negotiations between hospital management and the workers union were unsuccessful. Workers are represented by the National Union of Healthcare Workers union, and the union represents thousands of Kaiser Permanente employees in California and Hawaii. Workers picketed around Kaiser Permanente facilities around Southern California, including Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, and Fontana. The union states that if worker demands are not met, retention rates will decrease and the already underfunded and understaffed mental health services at Kaiser Permanente will suffer. The healthcare provider is required by law to continue to provide members with mental health services during strike action.
