Kan. gov. not upset by impasse on unions bill
The Kansas Legislature said that it is at an impasse over a bill that would raise taxes on businesses to pay back a loan from the federal government. Republicans say that they cannot pass the bill unless it also stops unions from using the funds deducted from workers' paychecks for political activities. The bill has passed the House, but is stalled in the Senate. A representative from the state AFL-CIO said that the bill will only take away workers' voices, but supporters of the measure say that they cannot tax businesses without putting something on the workers as well.
