Kansas House panel endorses union fundraising bill
A Kansas House committee has approved a bill that would limit political fundraising by public employee unions. The approval comes one day after a lobbyist said that they wanted the bill to be passed to eliminate public sector unions. Conservatives have super majorities in both houses of the legislature, making the law's passage likely. The bill would prohibit public workers' unions from using automatic paycheck deductions for political activities. Opponents say that the bill is meant to hurt unions, while supporters say that they want to protect workers' paychecks. Kansas is a right-to-work state.
