Key to Minimum Wage Hikes: Ballot Initiatives
When Republicans claimed the Senate in the most recent midterm election, they announced that increasing the minimum wage would cause more job cuts and not provide any assistance to those already unemployed. Even still, four states raised their minimum wage as it has become too low in the eyes of a majority of conservative voters. In fact, 1.8 million people in 2013 actually made less than the Federal minimum wage of $7.25.
