Kohler Company Strike: Nearly 2,000 Wisconsin Plumbing Ware Workers Walk Off Jobs, Demanding End To Tiered Wages
At Kohler Company off the coast of Lake Michigan, 1,800 workers walked off the job starting Sunday night. These workers went on strike after rejecting a proposal for a new contract. This is the first time that employees of Kohler have gone on strike since 1983. The workers, who are represented by the United Auto Workers, argue that the recently proposed contract is not enough of an improvement from the existing contract. Under the existing contract, 400 of the company's employees only make $12.50 an hour.
