L.A. City Council backs pension cuts for new workers
The Los Angeles City Council has voted to reduce pension benefits and raise the retirement age for new employees. The Mayor has been pushing changes to pension for months, but has faced strong opposition from labor leaders. The changes also mean that spouses will no longer eligible for city-funded healthcare, and that part of pay will be tied to retirement accounts. The change will only affect new employees. Supporters of the changes say that they are necessary for the city's financial health.
