L.A. controller will subpoena financial records from DWP union chief
Over $40 million in taxpayer money may have been misspent by two nonprofits run by the LA Department of Water and Power?s union?s boss. The city controller will issue a subpoenas for Brian D?Arcy, a business manager for IBEW local 8. The subpoenas comes after months of requests from the controller?s office for financial documents and invoices from the two nonprofits: the Joint Safety Institute and the Joint Training Institute. The controller claims that because it is taxpayer dollars the organizations must held to the same standard of transparency as a government organization. Mr. D?Arcy and attorneys for the organizations disagree, believing that because the organizations are not publically held they do not need to disclose their financial records.
