Labor Abuses Abroad
Despite increased scrutiny, major companies' supply chains still suffer from serious labor abuses due to ineffective social auditing. These audits, often superficial and pre-announced, fail to capture ongoing issues. In India, workers face severe conditions, including forced hysterectomies and child labor, despite certifications from organizations like Bonsucro, which major corporations use to reassure consumers. The current system, influenced by the companies it is supposed to regulate, remains inadequate in addressing these abuses, highlighting the need for stronger oversight and regulation.
