Labor accords set new course for United
Only four days after the major unions at American Airlines gave final approval to concessions agreements jeopardized by new corporate perks revealed during ratification votes (see WIT for April 28, 2003), members of three major unions at bankrupt United Airlines have ratified concessions (see WIT for Dec. 10, 2002). Seventy-five percent of the members of the flight attendants union at United who voted yesterday approved the concessions, as did 83 percent of voting baggage and customer service workers and 70 percent of voting mechanics. Standing to lose the most if United sought permission from a bankruptcy judge to overturn their labor contract, members of the pilots union at United had already agreed to the concessions---as had meteorologists and flight controllers.
