Labor Board Funding Cut 6 Percent in Trump Budget Plan
President Trump’s budget proposal, released on May 23, presents a 6 percent decrease in the NLRB’s budget. The budget would be cut from $274 million to $258 million for the 2018 fiscal year. This could mean the loss of 275 full-time-equivalent employees. AFL-CIO General Counsel, and former Democratic member of the NLRB, Craig Becker stated that although the NLRB is used to running on a low budget, a 6 percent budget cut would impair the NLRB’s function as protectors of workers’ right to organize and engage in collective bargaining.
