Labor Board Moves to Expedite Union Votes
(Subscription may be required) The National Labor Relations Board renewed interest in proposals that would speed union certification votes, the exact opposite of business groups? proposals. More than just the speed of elections, the proposals would make the election process more transparent. Employers would be required to give employees? email addresses to the union attempting to organize them, as well as allow election documents to be submitted online. The Associated Builders and Contractors quickly issued a statement claiming that the changes would deny employers? the right of free speech. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers issued similar statements with promises to fight the proposal with any means necessary. The last NLRB proposal of this nature was defeated in a U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2011.
